NEW TOPOGRAPHICS
Capturing human influence on our landscapes, from the barely-visible or historic, to the often brutal, modern impact we have on our natural environment.
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
A visual record of our everyday life in public places and spaces. Capturing unqiue moments and documenting our people and our times.
ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAITS
Capturing artists, artisans, and workers in their natural environments such as studios, workshops, factories, shops, or offices.
Thanks for dropping by my website
Here you’ll find a selection of my photographs, from Street Photography to Environmental Portraits, as well as ‘human-altered’ landscapes, sometimes called New Topographics. You’ll also find Art Prints of some of my photos, and for a limited time, your can purchase a RISO print of one of my favourite photos of the Isle of Lewis.
My current project aims to produce 16:9 abstracted black and white images of objects in the landscape of the Isle of Lewis and the Isle of Harris. This is a Work In Progress, but you can view the currently available crop here.
The Tate website explains where the term New Topographics came from, and what it means.
If you’re also new to Street Photography, The Department of Street Photography explanation is a good place to begin.
But you may also be wondering what environmental portraits are too. This is perhaps the easiest of the 3 genres of photography to describe: “a portrait executed in the subject’s usual environment, such as in their home or workplace, and typically illuminates the subject’s life and surroundings”.
Feel free to browse samples of my portfolio, buy a photographic print or Art Print from my online shop, or get in touch if you’d like to hire me, or simply have a question you’d like answered.
Cheers,
Niall
